SKILLS
There’s always the resume, of course; but here are a few things that it sometimes doesn’t quite capture:
-
Adobe Suite & Digital Things
i have a high comfort level with the entire Adobe Creative Suite; InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. i can kern type for days and use keyboard shortcuts like a ninja. i’m digital-centric and use xD and Figma. i wireframe, work from site maps, and am always thinking about UX and mobile. i’m obsessed with Hipstamatic, and like a true creative, have 50,000+ pics blowing up my iphone storage. i can ideate anywhere, always have a pen in my hand… and have been known to draw out entire campaign concepts on a napkin while fueling my coffee obsession.
-
Copywriting
writing and words come just as naturally to me as designing. i like to deploy large words and crafted-on-the-fly metaphors into the universe as often as possible. i minored in english in college – and i never forget to pack my vocabulary in my carry-on bag. i’m not violently opposed to the Oxford comma, and can definitely type curly quotes. i secretly read the dictionary as a kid. ironically i’m a kickass speller, but a mediocre typist. i love using ellipses… as a mental pause. a secret superpower that i possess: i read very, very fast and have no idea why.
-
Language Agility
i studied spanish extensively, and some french—as a result, i can decently read, write & converse in spanish; and can understand and read a bit in french…and the odd snippets of italian & portuguese. i frequently watch copious amounts of international films with subtitles. a brazilian friend of mine calls me ”007” because of my heightened observation and high inference skills. when my kid was a toddler, i let her use foreign “everyday” words as swear words; she is now an exceptionally well adjusted young working professional.
-
Business Development
i’ve done plenty of sales; and if i believe in the product/service, i can sell the hell out of it. i’ve sold high end clothing brands in Australia, home decor to Walmart, Target and Bed Bath & Beyond buyers, massage therapy health services to corporations and giant sporting venues, design services to international ad agencies and prestige beauty brands in high profile retail stores, including the flagship Macy’s & Bloomingdales in New York. i believe in the power of experiences as both a luxury…and a necessity.
-
Client Whisperer
i love interfacing with clients and hearing their POV first hand; and also have a unique ability to anticipate clients’ desires for a successful end result— that they may not be the best at envisioning or verbalizing. i’m especially intuitive at being able to write a great creative brief; and am nimble with words and turning a phrase. an innate ability to synthesize complex ideas and dish them up into something that makes sense is also a strength. my sense of color is acute and is a known specialty. I favor bold solutions… and am all about taking a stand for your brand.
-
Soft Skills
i can connect seemingly disparate dots in a single bound. i’m a pro at dealing with difficult personalities; and was once promoted at a job when it was discovered that i could easily diffuse client escalations & navigate ”complex” east coast people (because I am one). a real strength is being able to rally and galvanize my teams around a cause or a project— and drum up enthusiasm as quickly as a tornado can generate a funnel. my management style is just like REM— Automatic for the People. i like to cross pollinate so much that my friends & coworkers have been known to use the phrase ”6 Degrees of Lizz Bacon.”
